Company Overview

MVP Materials is a Japan- and Hong Kong-based company headquartered in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, that trades battery raw materials including lithium, cobalt, nickel, and recycled black mass. The company focuses on traceable, compliant sourcing and supports closed-loop material flows through recycled feedstocks and blockchain-enabled battery passport solutions. MVP supplies processed precursors to cell and battery manufacturers and provides logistics and trade-finance services to downstream customers. Its stated mission centers on improving material traceability and enabling lower-emission supply options for electric vehicle, grid storage, and consumer electronics markets.

Battery Technology

MVP Materials combines trading with technology partnerships and materials R&D. Through a partnership with Evove Ltd. the company is developing a direct lithium extraction (DLE) plant in Canada’s Montney Formation intended to produce battery-grade lithium hydroxide with a low carbon footprint; pilot operations have produced 99.9% purity. MVP also explores alternative cathode chemistry based on iron trichloride, advanced electrode fabrication using dry and 3D-printing methods, and polymer-based current collectors. Traceability and compliance are supported by blockchain-enabled battery passports and ISO/OECD-aligned supplier due diligence.

Products

MVP Materials trades processed battery precursors — lithium carbonate/hydroxide, cobalt and nickel sulfates, and recycled black mass — and provides flexible commercial terms from spot purchases to long-term contracts. Services include global logistics under FOB/CIF, trade financing support, and blockchain-enabled traceability. Products and services target EV manufacturers, grid-scale storage integrators, and consumer electronics suppliers seeking audit-ready, ethically sourced and recycled feedstocks.

Recent Projects

Between 2024 and 2025 MVP advanced a DLE project in partnership with Evove Ltd. to establish a commercial direct lithium extraction facility in the Montney Formation, Canada, with commissioning planned for 2025. Pilot operations produced battery-grade lithium hydroxide at 99.9% purity. These efforts are positioned to supply high-purity lithium hydroxide for EV and energy storage markets while reducing upstream emissions through a low-carbon extraction approach.
