NordicNinja is a Helsinki-based venture capital firm launched in 2019 through a partnership between the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and BaltCap, with backing from Honda, Panasonic and Omron. Managing over €100 million across offices in Helsinki, Stockholm, Tallinn and Tokyo, it is Europe’s largest venture capital firm backed by Japanese industry. The firm focuses on Series A and B rounds, investing €2–8 million in innovative companies throughout Northern Europe. Its team of former founders and operators backs ventures tackling global challenges such as low-carbon transportation, resource efficiency, digital infrastructure and healthcare systems. Sectors of interest include deep technology, robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, enterprise software, digital health and mobility. NordicNinja aims to provide portfolio companies with capital, strategic connections and cross-border access to scale internationally.
Investments in clean technology and advanced battery solutions form a core part of the portfolio. This focus reflects a broader commitment to the energy transition and low-carbon innovation. NordicNinja led a €32 million Series B1 round for CorPower Ocean, which develops wave energy converters for renewable power generation. The firm also supports tozero in building Europe’s first lithium-ion battery recycling plant to supply recycled materials for new products. Early investments include Einride’s electric autonomous freight vehicles and ClimateView’s toolkit for city emissions planning, underlining support for carbon reduction across transport and power infrastructure.
