Company Overview

Sixonia, founded in 2017 as a spin‑out from the Technical University of Dresden, is headquartered in Dresden, Germany. Co‑founder and CTO Dr. Martin Lohe leads the technical team. The company develops and manufactures electrochemically exfoliated few‑layer graphene (eGraphene) for industrial use. Its mission is to turn graphene’s laboratory properties into reliable, scalable materials that improve batteries and functional coatings. Sixonia emphasizes surfactant‑free dispersions, modular pilot production, and technical support for integration across energy storage, electronics, aerospace and industrial coatings.

Battery Technology

Sixonia’s core technology is a single‑step electrochemical exfoliation with in‑situ functionalization, producing large‑flake, few‑layer graphene (typical thickness <3 nm, lateral size ~1 µm). The aqueous, energy‑efficient process yields surfactant‑free dispersions and pastes with bulk film conductivity reported up to 140,000 S/m. Proprietary modular, semi‑automated pilot lines support scalable production; the company holds more than ten global patents. Environmental and safety advantages include reduced solvent use, lower process energy intensity, and options for local containerized manufacture that reduce logistics emissions and supply‑chain exposure.

Products

eGraphene is supplied as surfactant‑free dispersions (G‑DISP series), inks, pastes, powders and films, with onsite production options and more than 100 customization choices. Typical specs include few‑layer thickness (1–10 layers), ~1 µm flake size and high bulk conductivity. Products serve electrode conductive additives, interface primers, separator coatings, conductive and thermal management coatings across EV batteries, stationary energy storage, printed electronics, aerospace and industrial coatings.

Recent Projects

In 2025 Sixonia presented technical findings (September, 2025) on eGraphene’s battery advantages and continued a collaboration with Haze Automotive to develop carbon‑fiber Connected Battery Trays that integrate eGraphene‑based thermal management. The company operates pilot production at roughly 50 tonnes per annum of dispersions and is executing a scale program targeting about 1,600 tpa capacity by 2026 using modular, containerized lines to support local manufacturing and lower logistics emissions.

Investors

Sixonia has secured approximately €2.6 million in total funding and receives European Union co‑financing while collaborating with research partners such as TU Dresden and Fraunhofer ISE. The company’s funding and institutional partnerships support pilot production, R&D and efforts to scale modular manufacturing for industrial volumes. Sixonia holds over ten global patents covering its process and material functionalization methods.
