EMP Metals Corp is a lithium exploration and development company focusing on large-scale direct lithium extraction (DLE) assets in North America. Based in British Columbia, Canada, the company specializes in developing lithium brine resources, particularly in Saskatchewan’s Duperow formation. With its experienced technical team and strategic partnerships, EMP Metals aims to meet the increasing demand for lithium, driven by electric vehicle production and renewable energy storage needs. The company’s operations benefit from Saskatchewan’s favorable geology, existing infrastructure, and supportive mining regulations, allowing for efficient resource development and extraction processes.

Battery Technology

EMP Metals contributes to the battery supply chain through its advanced Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, developed in collaboration with Koch Technology Solutions and Saltworks Technologies. This process efficiently extracts lithium from brine resources, converting it into battery-grade lithium carbonate essential for lithium-ion battery manufacturing.

The company’s technical approach involves a sophisticated brine lifting and disposal infrastructure, optimized for the unique characteristics of Saskatchewan’s geological formations. Their extraction method offers several advantages over traditional lithium mining, including reduced environmental impact and higher recovery rates. The Viewfield project demonstrates this technology’s effectiveness, producing lithium concentrations averaging 241 mg/L with substantial flow rates of 418 m³/day.

EMP Metals’ processing capabilities include refining and converting lithium eluate into high-purity lithium carbonate suitable for battery production. This output serves manufacturers of electric vehicle batteries and energy storage systems, supporting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.

Recent Projects

In January 2024, EMP Metals completed Saskatchewan’s longest lithium brine flow testing program at the Viewfield project, running for 60 days. The test demonstrated consistent lithium concentrations and established reliable flow rates, validating the project’s commercial potential.

The company initiated operations of a DLE pilot plant in April 2024, marking significant progress in their extraction capabilities. Additionally, their August 2024 pilot program with Koch Technology Solutions and Saltworks Technologies achieved notable success, advancing their processing technology.

A January 2024 Preliminary Economic Assessment for the Viewfield project revealed promising economics, with a pre-tax NPV of US$1.49 billion and an IRR of 55%.

Investors

EMP Metals maintains strong financial backing from several significant investors. Tembo Capital Management Ltd. holds a 20.42% ownership stake, recently investing $1.28 million through private placement. ROK Resources Inc. maintains a 17.11% share, supporting the company’s lithium exploration initiatives in Saskatchewan.

The company’s ownership structure includes director Karl Kottmeier with 5.79%, CEO Robin Gamley holding 0.20%, and director Gregory Bronson owning 0.13%. These stakeholders provide strategic guidance and financial support for EMP Metals’ development goals.
