ISRA Vision is a worldwide technology provider specializing in industrial image processing, also known as machine vision. The company is focused on providing advanced machine vision systems to improve quality assurance and defect detection across many industries. With approximately 1,200 employees globally and operations in over 25 locations, ISRA Vision supports a broad customer base in sectors including automotive, battery production, glass, solar, packaging, and food production.

Since 2020, ISRA Vision has been part of the Machine Vision Solutions division of the Atlas Copco Group. The company originated as a spin-off from the Technical University of Darmstadt and has grown into a key supplier of machine vision technologies that automate manufacturing processes and ensure high-level quality control. Its solutions include high-performance cameras, specialized lighting, and intelligent software for tasks like surface inspection, quality inspection, robot guidance, and automated measurement.

Battery Technology

ISRA Vision plays a significant role in the expanding lithium-ion battery production sector. The company delivers inline quality inspection systems for crucial steps in battery manufacturing, particularly during electrode/separator production and cell assembly. For continuous web-based processes, ISRA Vision’s systems inspect electrode films, separator films, and metal foils for flaws such as streaks, holes, stains, impurities, and coating issues. These systems work with web widths from 300 to 1,000 mm and at speeds around 50 meters per minute, offering resolutions between 25 and 100 micrometers.

For separator film inspection, ISRA Vision employs ultra-high-resolution cameras to identify defects in PVDF fluoroplastic coatings, including holes, stains, and scratches. During cell assembly and at the end of the production line, ISRA Vision provides comprehensive optical inspection for pouch, prismatic, and cylindrical battery cells. These systems detect surface imperfections, contamination, and dimensional variations, while also confirming barcodes and data codes. Defective cells are automatically marked or removed. The defect detection capability is around 50 micrometers. The real-time information gathered from these inspections helps companies adjust production processes immediately, increasing yield rates and reducing waste and resource consumption.

Recent Projects

In 2024, ISRA Vision introduced the “FPM-Smart” system, an all-in-one optical defect detection platform designed for intricate free-form surfaces, particularly in glass manufacturing. This system incorporates various inspection methods like Transmission Bright Field (TBF) and Reflection Bright Field (RBF), allowing for improved detection of light deflection and other anomalies. The company also streamlined its branding in 2023 under the Atlas Copco name, while keeping its original product brands such as Perceptron and QUISS. This action solidified ISRA Vision’s position as a primary brand for machine vision solutions within the group.

Investors

Before 2020, major shareholders included Enis Ersü through his holding company EVWB GmbH & Co. KG, Vision GbR, and the institutional investor Kabouter Management, LLC. In 2020, Atlas Copco initiated a voluntary public takeover offer. Through agreements with key shareholders like Enis Ersü and Kabouter Management, Atlas Copco secured a majority interest, integrating ISRA Vision into its Industrial Technique business area. As of 2025, Atlas Copco is the controlling owner of ISRA Vision.
