OCSiAl and Molicel partner to enhance ultrahigh-power lithium-ion batteries with single wall carbon nanotubes. Introducing the INR-21700-P50B cell, they achieve high energy density, rapid charging, and extended cycle life for premium mobility applications.

OCSiAl and Molicel have entered into a long-term partnership aimed at enhancing ultrahigh-power lithium-ion battery cells using single wall carbon nanotubes. The collaboration introduces the INR-21700-P50B cell, which integrates OCSiAl’s nanotubes to achieve high energy density and rapid charging capabilities, specifically targeting premium mobility applications.

As part of the strategic agreement, OCSiAl, the leading global manufacturer of single wall carbon nanotubes, will supply Molicel with these nanotubes to improve both anode and cathode performance in their battery cells. This partnership is expected to result in batteries that offer superior efficiency, fast-charging convenience, and extended cycle life compared to existing market solutions.

Last year, Molicel showcased the P50B lithium-ion battery cells enhanced with OCSiAl’s single wall carbon nanotubes. The latest iteration, the INR-21700-P50B, boasts an energy density of 260 Wh/kg and delivers a peak power of 413 W at 45°C, along with 5C ultrafast charging capabilities. These advancements make the INR-21700-P50B well-suited for high-demand applications such as hyper electric vehicles, racing sports cars, eVTOLs, racing motorcycles, and heavy lift drones.

“The collaboration between Molicel’s advanced cell technology and OCSiAl’s single wall carbon nanotubes has made it possible for the INR-21700-P50B to redefine high-power cylindrical cells,” said Casey Shiue, President of Molicel. “This synergistic approach yields a superior power-to-energy ratio, a remarkable doubling of battery cycle life to 1,400 cycles at 100 W discharge, and ultralow impedance through innovative interface engineering, resulting in superior performance and efficiency, while maintaining excellent energy density and cycle life.”

OCSiAl’s single wall carbon nanotubes are recognized for their exceptional conductivity and flexibility, making them superior to other carbon-based additives for batteries.
