ADS-TEC Energy PLC announced on October 28, 2026, that the permitting authority has confirmed the completeness of its application documents for a battery energy storage plant at the Pulverdingen substation in Markgröningen, Germany. The building permit is expected shortly. The planned facility would provide approximately 1 GW of power and 4 GWh of storage capacity, making it one of Europe’s largest battery storage systems, according to the company.
The plant is designed to deliver its full output for approximately four hours. ADS-TEC Energy said this corresponds to the daily electricity consumption of about 400,000 single-family homes or 800,000 apartments. The system would store electricity during periods of excess generation and release it when supply tightens. It is also intended to provide frequency stabilization, manage load peaks and support grid restoration following outages.
ADS-TEC Energy has developed the project with European partners. The company said German suppliers and other corporations are prepared to provide batteries, switchgear, transformers and extra-high-voltage equipment. The batteries would use ADS-TEC Energy’s proprietary battery management systems, including electronics and software developed and deployed in-house for more than 15 years.
Investment in a facility of this scale typically ranges from the high hundreds of millions of euros to approximately EUR 1 billion, the company said. From 2029, ADS-TEC Energy expects to participate through its battery management technology, technical services and a continuing stake in the project company. Third-party market data cited by the company indicates that large-scale storage systems in Germany have recently generated approximately EUR 150,000 to 250,000 per MW annually from wholesale trading and balancing markets. ADS-TEC Energy said these figures are not a forecast or financial guidance.

Application documents are complete and the building permit is expected shortly, a key prerequisite for financing and partnership agreements.

The company is negotiating with potential investors and strategic partners. It intends to sell a majority stake in the project company while remaining a long-term project partner. ADS-TEC Energy said the building permit is a prerequisite for completing financing and partnership agreements.
