Chinese automaker BYD has disclosed key specifications for its new Great Han full-size sedan, which will go on sale domestically later this year. Measuring 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the Great Han surpasses the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class by 66 mm in length. Its exterior features the brand’s signature “Loong Face” styling, slim headlights linked by a chrome strip, active front air intakes, semi-hidden door handles and multi-spoke wheels. A single, full-width taillight incorporates a Chinese knot motif, while blacked-out pillars and roof accentuate a floating-roof effect. A LiDAR sensor on the roof supports BYD’s DiPilot advanced driver-assistance system, including Navigate On Autopilot capability for both urban and highway driving.

The Great Han offers two battery-electric variants riding on either 20- or 21-inch wheels. The rear-wheel-drive model uses a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor, reaches a top speed of 240 km/h and is expected to deliver up to 1,008 km of range under CLTC testing with an LFP battery. The all-wheel-drive version pairs front and rear motors for combined output of 570 kW (764 hp), boosts top speed to 270 km/h and achieves an estimated 880 km range. Curb weight across variants spans 2,210 to 2,505 kg. Overhangs measure 992 mm at the front and 1,134 mm at the rear, yielding 13- and 14-degree approach and departure angles, respectively.

A plug-in hybrid variant combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine (115 kW/154 hp) with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor. Its 54.5 kWh LFP pack weighs 389 kg and supports a pure electric range of 370 km. Fuel consumption with a depleted battery is rated at 4.6 L/100 km.

The Great Han is expected to share advanced features with BYD’s recently launched Great Tang SUV, including Flash Charging technology, DiSus-A suspension with adjustable clearance and rear-wheel steering. The Tang SUV secured some 100,000 orders within two weeks of announcement, prompting two launch delays to align production capacity. Meanwhile, the existing Han series recorded 3,390 domestic sales in May, with the high-output Han L contributing 689 units.
