Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) and its subsidiary Ampace signed a memorandum of understanding with Octopus Energy on October 26, 2026, to explore cooperation in residential energy storage, smart energy management and clean energy services. The companies aim to support the development of more efficient and flexible distributed energy systems.
Under the agreement, the companies will assess how Ampace’s battery technology, system integration and manufacturing capabilities can be combined with Octopus Energy’s digital energy solutions and energy market services. The planned work will focus on storage technology, product development, digital energy management and new approaches to residential energy.
Ampace and Octopus Energy will also explore the potential use of sodium-ion batteries in residential storage systems. According to the companies, the chemistry could broaden the range of safe and cost-effective storage options available to households. The memorandum does not specify a development timeline, product launch or planned production volume.
CATL said the collaboration builds on its existing relationship with Octopus Energy and extends their work from heavy transport into residential storage. Through Ampace, the companies plan to connect battery hardware with digital energy management and customer services, with the goal of reducing household energy costs and improving grid flexibility.
The partners also intend to examine ways to increase the value of distributed energy resources across the residential energy value chain. Further solutions will be shaped through ongoing discussions, with a focus on customer requirements and the long-term development of the distributed energy market.
