Global electric vehicle battery usage reached 725.2 GWh in the first seven months of 2026, up 20.4% from the same period a year earlier, according to data released by South Korean market researcher SNE Research. In July alone, battery installations totaled 116.0 GWh, marking a 22.1% year-over-year increase.
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited remained the world’s largest EV battery supplier in January-July 2026, with 289.6 GWh of installations, up 26.6% year on year. Its market share rose to 39.9% from 38.0% a year earlier and was unchanged from the January-June period. BYD ranked second with 106.7 GWh, an increase of 4.7% year on year, though its share slipped to 14.7% from 16.9%.
Together, the two companies held a combined 54.6% share of the global market, slightly below 54.9% a year earlier but still accounting for more than half of total installations.
LG Energy Solution placed third with 60.3 GWh, up 4.5% year on year, while its share declined to 8.3% from 9.6%. SNE Research said the company continued supplying Tesla, Hyundai Motor Group, General Motors, and Volkswagen, but its growth lagged the broader market.
CALB ranked fourth with 37.3 GWh, up 34.3%, and Gotion High-tech followed with 34.0 GWh, up 44.2%. Panasonic was sixth with 26.2 GWh, supported by Tesla sales in North America, while Eve Energy took seventh place with 25.0 GWh, up 53.1%.
SK On was the only top-10 supplier to post a decline, with installations falling 9.8% to 22.3 GWh. Svolt Energy ranked ninth with 18.9 GWh, and Rept Battero Energy entered the top 10 for the first time after installations jumped 118.5% to 16.9 GWh.
Chinese battery makers accounted for seven of the top 10 positions and held a combined 72.8% share, up 3.1 percentage points from a year earlier. Regionally, battery installations rose 29.3% in Europe, 16.6% in China, 77.1% in Asian markets outside China, and 192.6% in South America, while North America saw a 20.2% decline.
