Cummins Inc. and its Accelera by Cummins business announced on September 14, 2026, plans to expand battery manufacturing in Europe through production in Spain. The announcement was made at IAA Transportation 2026, where Cummins also presented a range of engine, hybrid and powertrain technologies for commercial vehicles.
The facility in Spain will manufacture Accelera’s Advanced LFP lithium iron phosphate battery platform. The platform is designed for demanding commercial vehicle applications, including buses and trucks. Cummins said the investment reflects a long-term commitment to the European market and is intended to support growing adoption of battery-electric commercial vehicles across the region.
Amy Davis, president of Accelera and Components, said the company is seeing increasing demand for battery-electric systems in Europe’s commercial vehicle market. She added that manufacturing in Spain would strengthen local customer support and position the business for long-term regional growth.
At the event, Cummins also highlighted its HELM platforms, which are designed to support multiple markets, applications and selected fuel types while reducing complexity for original equipment manufacturers. Products on display included the B7.2 engine, the X15N heavy-duty natural gas engine and the X10 platform. Cummins demonstrated the X10’s hybrid capability and said its common architecture can support advanced diesel and potential future fuel variants. The engine is designed for emissions standards including Euro 7.
The company’s Components business also presented technologies intended to improve vehicle and powertrain performance, efficiency and reliability. These included a U-Module aftertreatment system designed for Euro 7, NS-VII and BS-VII regulations, as well as a Class 8 single rear drive axle and an independent front suspension for bus and coach applications. Cummins said its portfolio spans battery-electric, hybrid, diesel and natural gas power solutions.
