On September 15, 2025, DEKRA officially inaugurated its new Battery Test Center at the Lausitzring site in Brandenburg, marking the completion of a major investment in safe mobility. Constructed over the past 15 months, the facility was brought online in a ceremony attended by Brandenburg’s Minister President Dietmar Woidke, Oberspreewald-Lausitz District Administrator Siegurd Heinze, and DEKRA Germany CEO Guido Kutschera.

The state-of-the-art center will offer a comprehensive range of battery tests under one roof. Services include mechanical integrity assessments, performance and environmental testing, and rigorous abuse tests that subject batteries to stresses well beyond normal operating conditions. All tests are performed in accordance with strict safety protocols, supporting development projects as well as homologation, certification, quality assurance, and market surveillance requirements.

“DEKRA and the new battery test center are an important sign for the future of Lusatia as an energy and economic region. Safe and reliable battery technologies are an industry of the future and strengthen the value chains of e-mobility in Brandenburg. DEKRA’s decision to make this investment here at the Klettwitz site underlines the importance of Brandenburg as an attractive, future-oriented business location and the attractiveness of Lusatia as an innovative energy region,” explained Minister-President Woidke.

For Guido Kutschera – Executive Vice President of the DEKRA Group responsible for business in Germany, Switzerland and Austria – the new Battery Test Center is another important building block in DEKRA’s strategy with regard to inspection and testing services for the mobility of the future: “The Klettwitz site stands like no other in the DEKRA Group for Putting vehicles through their paces before they go on the road – so that everyone involved knows that the technology is safe. The fact that our customers from the automotive and supplier industries can find such a comprehensive range of services from a single source and with short distances here at one location is an important success factor, and that is exactly why we are opening the Battery Test Center not anywhere in the world, but right here in Lusatia.”

In the course of this, the location at the DEKRA Lausitzring also continues to grow. “When we took over the Ring almost eight years ago, DEKRA had a total of 70 employees here at the site. Today we are 290. In the Battery Test Center alone, we will ultimately have up to 40 qualified jobs,” says Erik Pellmann, Head of the Automotive Test Center at DEKRA Automobil GmbH.

As part of DEKRA’s global network of specialized laboratories, the Lausitzring center reinforces the organization’s commitment to high safety, efficiency, and performance standards for next-generation batteries. It also supports innovation across the automotive sector and advances DEKRA’s mission to promote sustainable mobility and intelligent energy solutions worldwide.
