Delectrik to Deploy India’s First 100 MWh Flow Battery
Delectrik Systems secured a contract from NTPC Renewable Energy to deliver India’s first utility-scale 100 MWh vanadium redox flow battery—non-containerized and fully designed in India—at Khavda Solar Park by 2027, building on its 3 MWh Greater Noida system.

Delectrik Systems has secured a contract to deploy India’s first utility-scale Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) system with a capacity of 100 MWh. Awarded by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited—a wholly owned subsidiary of India’s largest integrated power utility, which operates over 90 GW of installed capacity—the project will be delivered in partnership with infrastructure solutions provider Bondada Engineering Limited.

The non-containerized flow battery design developed by Delectrik is intended for large commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications. Installation is scheduled for 2027 at Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat, which is planned to reach 30 GW of renewable energy generation capacity by 2029, making it one of the largest solar parks globally. This follows Delectrik’s successful deployment of a 3 MWh flow battery system at Greater Noida in 2025.

Dr. Vishal Mittal, Founder and CEO of Delectrik, noted that the upcoming project represents a significant milestone for both the company and India’s broader energy transition. As the first non-lithium utility-scale battery energy storage system to be fully designed, engineered and manufactured in India, the 100 MWh VRFB will support grid stability and enable higher penetration of intermittent renewables.

Over the next 12 months, Delectrik aims to secure at least 1 GWh of flow battery orders across India, Australia, ASEAN, Africa and additional regions. To strengthen its value-chain integration, the company has established two subsidiaries: Delectrik Resources Pvt Ltd, which will focus on upstream vanadium oxide production and beneficiation, and Delectrik Esaas Pvt Ltd, which will offer “Energy Storage as a Service” to commercial and industrial customers, including data centers.

Long-duration energy storage solutions such as flow batteries play a critical role in large-scale renewable integration. By providing safe, secure and sustainable storage, these technologies help balance supply and demand, facilitating the country’s targets for increasing renewable capacity to 60 GW by 2032.
