Elevated Materials has been selected to receive $50 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to expand domestic manufacturing of advanced battery materials.
The funding will support the development of a new $100 million manufacturing facility in the U.S. with an expected annual capacity of approximately 3.5 GW. The facility will manufacture ultra-thin lithium-metal films and prelithiated materials using the company’s roll-to-roll vacuum deposition technology.
“The United States has made advanced battery manufacturing a national priority, and securing a domestic supply of critical materials that significantly increases energy density is central to that effort,” said Jim Cushing, CEO of Elevated Materials. “We developed this technology in California with support from DOE R&D programs and are proud to have been selected by the Department of Energy to now ramp it up to giga-watt scale.”
The project aims to scale production of advanced lithium-anode materials from pilot manufacturing to commercial-scale production. These materials are intended to support next-generation batteries with higher energy density and improved performance across applications including electric vehicles, consumer electronics, aviation and grid energy storage.
The DOE funding is part of a broader $500 million investment across seven projects aimed at strengthening U.S. battery manufacturing, critical-mineral processing and recycling capabilities.
