At the EU–Western Balkans Investment Forum in Tirana, ElevenEs, a Serbian battery cell manufacturer, formalized a joint declaration of support with the European Commission and the Development Agency of Serbia. The agreement, signed by ElevenEs CEO Nemanja Mikać in the presence of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, recognizes the company’s planned expansion of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) prismatic blade cell production as a project aligned with the European Green Deal and the Global Gateway strategy.
The inaugural forum, backed by the European Commission, seeks to strengthen economic cooperation and investment between EU member states and Western Balkan partners. By supporting ElevenEs’s growth, the EU aims to advance its decarbonization objectives across energy, transport and industrial sectors.
“Signing this joint declaration of support with the European Commission and the Serbian Development Agency is an important recognition of the quality of the prismatic LFP blade cells battery we produce, and ElevenEs’s upcoming contribution to the EU’s decarbonization efforts, and the economic and industrial development across the region”, Mikać said.
ElevenEs plans to invest €700 million in two phases, creating approximately 1,000 jobs in Serbia. The project will establish a gigafactory in Subotica, marking Europe’s first large-scale LFP production facility. The prismatic blade cell design is intended to meet rising demand for batteries in electric vehicles and stationary energy storage systems.
Founded in 2022 as a spin-out from Al Pack Group, ElevenEs draws on three decades of electrode manufacturing expertise to deliver cost-efficient, long-lasting battery cells. The company’s expansion supports the EU’s strategy to secure a diversified and resilient battery supply chain while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
By leveraging local talent and existing industrial infrastructure, ElevenEs aims to position Serbia and the broader Western Balkans as a reliable hub for sustainable battery production. The partnership with EU institutions underscores the strategic importance of aligning regional investment with Europe’s broader climate and energy objectives.
