Geely Automobile will start producing its high-end vehicles at Volvo’s European plants in 2028, according to remarks from the company’s new chairman, An Conghui. His comments were widely understood to refer primarily to Zeekr and Lynk & Co models, which are part of Geely Automobile’s brand portfolio.

The announcement came after Zhejiang Geely Holding Group’s media center said on August 17 that Li Shufu, also known as Eric Li, had resigned as chairman of the board and executive director of Geely Automobile. An Conghui, also known as Andy An, has taken over as chairman. Li Shufu remains chairman of Geely Holding, Geely Automobile’s parent company.

An Conghui said his priorities include improving coordination across Geely Automobile, strengthening cooperation with the controlling shareholder, and supporting stable long-term development. Speaking during the company’s 2026 interim results conference, he said Volvo’s plants in Europe would become an important base for Geely’s local strategy and would handle production of premium models within the Geely Automobile ecosystem.

Geely Automobile currently oversees the Geely, Geely Galaxy, Zeekr, and Lynk & Co brands. Lynk & Co is positioned as a semi-premium brand aimed at younger customers, while Zeekr is Geely’s higher-end offering. Potential models for European production could include the Lynk & Co 900, the Zeekr 9X, and the Zeekr 8X plug-in hybrid crossovers.

Volvo operates two vehicle assembly plants in Sweden and Belgium, and a separate electric vehicle plant is under construction in Slovakia, with mass production targeted for early 2027. Geely also has a joint venture with Ford to build vehicles at Ford’s plant in Spain, where production of two Geely-branded models is expected to begin in 2028.

In a previous report, Geely Holding Group ranked seventh among the world’s top 10 automakers by market share in the first half of 2026, with 4.6%. The Geely EX2, also known as Xingyuan or E2, remained the company’s best-selling model in China, with 226,465 units delivered from January through July 2026, down 9.1% year over year.
