Holyvolt announced on October 15, 2026, that it raised $45 million from Zone II, CC.VC and angel investors from the finance sector. Existing investors include Fifth Wall. The company said the funding will expand its artificial intelligence capabilities, laboratory capacity and scientific team while supporting the commercial development of its DRX cathode materials.
Holyvolt’s Discovery Engine is based on a high-throughput platform developed by Wildcat Discovery Technologies, which merged with Holyvolt in 2026. The automated laboratory builds and tests thousands of battery materials in parallel. Over 18 years, the platform has completed more than 225 projects for over 85 customers across the battery value chain and contributed to more than 100 battery patents.
The work generated an internally consistent dataset covering more than 500,000 physical cells tested over more than 165 million cycles. Holyvolt has trained AI models on this dataset and connected them with its automated laboratories. The models identify materials for testing, the platform builds and cycles physical cells, and the experimental results are returned to the models to inform subsequent predictions.
The company said its automated laboratory delivers results 10 times faster than conventional research and development, while connecting the laboratory with AI could increase the pace by 100 times. Holyvolt plans to use the expanded system to advance DRX, or disordered rocksalt, cathode materials.
DRX is Holyvolt’s first material family moving toward commercialization from the Discovery Engine. The cathodes are designed to provide high energy density without nickel or cobalt and use raw materials that can be sourced outside China. Holyvolt plans to begin commercializing DRX in 2027, initially for defense applications and later for larger mobility markets.
Holyvolt is headquartered in Stockholm and operates facilities in San Diego and Munich. Its San Diego site combines battery research, materials development and pilot production, and hosts all of the company’s DRX development activities.
