High Performance Battery Technology GmbH (HPB) announced on October 13, 2026, that it is working with Swiss equipment specialists Mathis AG and TSE Troller AG to prepare its solid-state battery electrode coating process for industrial series production. The implementation partnership is intended to support future manufacturing licensees of HPB technology.
The companies aim to ensure that process windows established during development remain valid on series-production equipment, avoiding the need for licensees to determine coating parameters again. Initial discussions began in early 2026, followed by joint test series starting in spring 2026.
HPB uses a roll-to-sheet process aligned with its stacked cell design. After the active material suspension is applied to the current collector, the coated web is dried, calendered under defined pressure and cut into individual sheets rather than rewound. According to HPB, each sheet must meet coating specifications because variations in coating weight cannot be corrected later.
TSE Troller supplies structurally matched coating dies for laboratory and production widths. The company manufactures die slots with an accuracy of 0.5 micrometers and supports coating widths ranging from a few millimeters to more than 1.5 meters. Development and series-production dies are designed using the same fluid-dynamic specifications so that scaling to wider formats does not require a new process development cycle.
Mathis supplies coating systems with integrated drying, calendering and basis-weight measurement. For HPB’s process, the equipment can coat metallic substrates such as nickel foam in roll-to-sheet operation. Combining the process steps in one system allows parameter changes and their effects to be measured directly.
HPB grants market, manufacturing and component licenses rather than producing batteries itself. Under the collaboration, Mathis and TSE Troller can provide a complete electrode production line or potentially upgrade existing equipment, enabling licensees to use process parameters documented by HPB on their own series-production systems.
