HPQ Silicon Inc. announced that its subsidiary, HPQ Silica Polvere Inc. (HSPI), has achieved a significant milestone in the development of its proprietary Fumed Silica Reactor (FSR) Pilot Plant during the fourth phase of its initial batch testing.
The company’s technology partner, PyroGenesis Inc., confirmed that the Pilot Plant is successfully scaling up from laboratory conditions to pilot-scale operations. Following continuous improvements across the first three phase-one batch tests, the Pilot Plant has met a crucial objective by producing and collecting large quantities of white powder material, likely fumed silica, in the product recovery unit known as the “baghouse.”
In a press release dated May 13, 2025, PyroGenesis highlighted the importance of this achievement, stating that the successful production and collection of fumed silica validate the process’s scalability to commercial levels. This milestone is considered one of the most significant in the project, suggesting that remaining challenges are manageable.
This progress supports the validation of HSPI’s proprietary process for producing commercial-scale fumed silica, positioning HPQ Silicon for the next stages of development and eventual market commercialization.
The next phase involves testing the collected material to confirm its composition and purity. This includes determining whether the powder is indeed fumed silica or an intermediary product and assessing any potential impurities.
“Saying we’re excited by the results would be an understatement. Achieving these outcomes so early in the testing phase significantly boosts our confidence in our ability to replicate this milestone and consistently produce commercial-quality material,” said Bernard Tourillon, President & CEO of HPQ Silicon and HPQ Silica. “Once we receive confirmation and are satisfied with the material’s quality, we will be ready to distribute samples to third parties.”
HPQ Silicon, based in Quebec, is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange and collaborates with technology partners such as PyroGenesis Canada and NOVACIUM SAS. The company is focused on developing environmentally friendly processes essential for producing critical materials needed to achieve net-zero emissions.
