As the global energy storage industry moves toward the TWh era, the adoption of 500 Ah+ and 1000 Ah+ large-format energy storage cells is creating new demands for battery manufacturing. Lead Intelligent said the larger cell formats can improve energy density and lower system costs, but they also introduce greater production challenges, including heavy-duty material handling, high-precision positioning, welding consistency, and hermetic sealing.
To address these requirements, the company has launched its Integrated Assembly Line Solution for Large-Format Energy Storage Batteries. Built on proprietary technologies and turnkey production line experience, the system combines manufacturing processes, intelligent equipment, logistics systems, and digital technologies into a unified production architecture. Lead Intelligent said the approach is intended to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability while reducing the limitations of conventional stand-alone production lines.
According to the company, the integrated line can reduce production floor space by 20% and lower the number of equipment units by 20%, which may help improve factory utilization and reduce capital investment. It also cuts single-cell handling operations by 43%, aiming to lower transfer risks and decrease the likelihood of cell damage during production. In addition, intelligent power management and predictive maintenance are designed to reduce energy consumption and unplanned downtime over the production lifecycle.
The solution covers the full manufacturing process for large-format energy storage batteries, including hot pressing, tab folding inspection, X-ray alignment inspection, X-ray foreign object detection, cell pairing, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, and helium leak testing. Lead Intelligent said the line is designed to automotive-grade manufacturing standards and can achieve cleanliness levels of up to ISO Class 5 at critical stations.
The company also highlighted technologies such as high-power ultrasonic welding, an anti-tab tearing process, high-precision tab forming, and an optimized lid-to-can welding solution. Lead Intelligent said the integrated system supports rapid changeovers for 300 Ah+ to 1000 Ah+ cells and is backed by more than 600 GWh of cumulative energy storage production line orders.
