Morrow Batteries ASA has secured its first defense contract, agreeing to supply battery cells to a major German defense company. Following a 12-month evaluation, Morrow’s cells were benchmarked against established international manufacturers and demonstrated performance and reliability that meet standards for security-critical applications. The customer remains undisclosed under confidentiality terms.

Jon Fold von Bülow, CEO of Morrow Batteries, noted that the cells delivered consistently high performance during testing, underscoring their stability for defense use. The initial shipments will support the customer’s product development and qualification program.

Morrow’s cells have also been validated through collaboration with Nordic Batteries. They were integrated into systems deployed during NATO exercises in Northern Norway, including evaluation at the Heimdal test arena under extreme Arctic conditions. Jarle Gjøsæther, CEO of Nordic Batteries, highlighted the importance of consistent, verifiable performance in defense systems and praised the cells’ operational reliability, cold-weather performance, and field robustness.

Demand is rising among European defense and industrial firms for domestically produced battery technology, driven by concerns over supply-chain security and critical technology access. Von Bülow emphasized that batteries have become strategic components in defense and critical infrastructure, and that this agreement reflects a growing need for European-manufactured cells with documented performance and secure supply.

Founded in 2020 and based in Arendal, Norway, Morrow Batteries focuses on advancing Europe’s energy resilience through sustainable innovation and large-scale cell production. The company operates Norway’s largest battery R&D center alongside a manufacturing facility, producing low-carbon lithium iron phosphate batteries for critical applications. Morrow is also developing next-generation cobalt-free and advanced anode materials, serving customers in defense, energy storage, and mobility markets.
