The largest battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Nordics has entered commercial operation in Ånge, Sweden. Sungrow delivered its PowerTitan 2.0 utility system, providing 70 MW of power and 160 MWh of capacity for the project developed by Delta Capacity. Engineered to withstand challenging Nordic weather and temperature extremes, the installation is designed to support high reliability and efficiency.
The Ånge facility will play a central role in balancing Sweden’s power grid, offering rapid response for frequency regulation and engaging in energy arbitrage across the variable Nordic market. Sweden’s battery storage sector has grown rapidly, enabled by regulatory frameworks that allow storage assets to participate in balancing markets and generate revenue. In 2025, Sweden and Finland together added more than 1 GWh of new battery capacity, according to a SolarPower Europe report.

Owned by a joint venture between WOOD & Company Renewables Sub-Fund and Delta Capacity, the project moved from procurement to commercial operation in just 15 months. Located in the Swedish bidding zone SE2, the facility is tasked with enhancing grid flexibility. “The Nordic energy transition is moving fast and requires infrastructure that keeps pace. Sweden has great renewable resources, but flexibility is missing, and that is exactly what Ånge provides—160 MWh of storage delivered in 15 months. The energy transition cannot wait,” commented Patrik Hes, CEO of Delta Capacity.
RES originally developed the project before its acquisition in February 2025. Key contractors included Stenger & Ibsen Construction, Rejlers, Green Power Monitor, Solvina and Ellevio, while Centrica Energy manages round-the-clock trading for the facility.
Sungrow Europe maintains 25 local offices, two R&D centers and 26 warehouses across the continent. Its Swedish team operates from Stockholm, with additional Scandinavian offices in Malmö, Copenhagen and Helsinki.
