Xpeng has commissioned an automated production line for its Iron humanoid robot, with more than 80% of core processes automated. Mass production is still planned for end-2026, with deliveries expected in China and overseas in 2027.

Xpeng has commissioned its humanoid robot production line, marking a manufacturing milestone for its Iron robot program as the company prepares for mass production by the end of 2026. The company said more than 80% of core processes on the line are automated, supporting its plan to scale production while maintaining consistent quality.

According to Xpeng, the Iron humanoid robot completed assembly and then walked off the line autonomously, signaling a shift from research and development prototypes to production-line manufacturing. The company described the facility as the world’s first automated production line for advanced humanoid robots, combining automotive-grade quality systems with precision robotics manufacturing.

Xpeng said the line was designed with scale in mind from the beginning. By automating key steps in the process, the company aims to improve manufacturing consistency and create room for capacity expansion as demand develops. However, the commissioning of the line does not mean Iron has entered mass production yet. Xpeng reiterated that large-scale production is still scheduled to begin by year-end, with initial deployments expected at the company’s own stores and campuses.

The company also said it plans to officially launch Iron and begin deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027. Xpeng did not disclose the production line’s capacity or the robot’s price.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the production lines for the robot were built from scratch without a precedent to follow. He added that the company will continue working toward shorter production cycles and larger manufacturing scale.

Xpeng said the new line supports its broader push into physical AI, using quality management, supply chain experience, and AI technologies developed in its automotive business. The next-generation Iron, unveiled in November 2025, features 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand. It uses a fully enclosed flexible lattice structure designed to balance a human-like appearance with safety.

Iron is powered by three in-house Turing AI chips with up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power, enabling Xpeng’s physical AI foundation model to run directly on the robot. The company said this setup allows the robot to perform complex tasks autonomously, while reducing inference latency and improving data security.
