PowerCo’s Unified Cell concept is an adaptable battery format supporting multiple chemistry configurations for diverse vehicle applications, enabling cost-effective mass production. The company uses a proprietary dry coating technique that eliminates chemical solvents and industrial drying furnaces, reducing energy consumption by 30% compared to traditional processes and enhancing fast-charging capabilities. In collaboration with QuantumScape, PowerCo is advancing solid-state battery development by integrating ceramic separator technology with lithium-metal anodes, targeting up to 80 GWh annual capacity for solid-state batteries with increased energy density, faster charging, and improved safety.
In 2024 PowerCo secured an agreement with Novonix for 32,000 tonnes of synthetic graphite starting in 2027 at Novonix’s Riverside facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Construction is underway for PowerCo’s first overseas gigafactory in St. Thomas, Ontario, with a planned 90 GWh annual capacity. PowerCo and Volkswagen invested in Patriot Battery Metals to secure long-term lithium supplies.
