LG Energy Solution has entered into an agreement with PGE, Poland’s largest energy company, to supply 981 megawatt-hours (MWh) of grid-scale energy storage systems (ESS) between 2026 and 2027. The partnership will focus on developing a battery energy storage facility in Żarnowiec, Poland, with PGE targeting the commencement of commercial operations in 2027.
Under the agreement, LG Energy Solution will deliver a turnkey solution that includes containerized battery systems and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services in collaboration with European partners. This initiative marks the first deployment of grid-scale ESS batteries manufactured at LG Energy Solution’s production facility in Poland. The supplied batteries will feature high-capacity lithium iron phosphate (LFP) long-cell designs, offering enhanced energy efficiency, safety, and higher energy density compared to traditional LFP solutions. Additionally, the systems will incorporate Liquid Cooling technology to optimize performance and reliability.
“This project is one of the largest ESS initiatives led by LG Energy Solution in Europe,” said Hyung Kim, Head of the ESS Battery Division at LG Energy Solution. “By launching LFP-based products designed specifically for the European market and leveraging our local production capabilities, we have maximized customer value.”
He continued, “We are honored to support Poland’s energy transition through this agreement. Moving forward, we will continue to provide optimal solutions for our customers and accelerate the expansion of our ESS business in Europe.”
The agreement is expected to enhance LG Energy Solution’s presence in future public tenders for European state-owned energy companies, expanding the company’s footprint in the regional grid-scale ESS market. By utilizing its “Made in Europe” manufacturing capabilities, LG Energy Solution aims to meet the demands of European customers and governments that prioritize locally produced solutions. This strategy is designed to improve market presence, unlock new business opportunities, and showcase the quality and competitiveness of its locally manufactured products.
Amid rising energy security concerns in Europe, the demand for renewable energy infrastructure and ESS solutions is increasing rapidly. Advancements in artificial intelligence are also driving the growth of data centers, which in turn boosts the demand for energy storage systems.
