Since 1986, Tianneng Holding Group has established itself as a global leader in battery manufacturing and sustainable energy solutions. Headquartered in China’s Zhejiang Province, with production facilities spanning 18 countries and a network of over 160 subsidiaries, the company generates annual revenue exceeding $12 billion. Tianneng’s products include lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion systems, and advanced energy storage solutions, powering applications from electric vehicles to data centers. Listed on the Hong Kong and Shanghai Stock Exchanges, the group serves over 15 markets worldwide, including Vietnam, Thailand, and Europe, while expanding its recycling infrastructure to support a circular economy.

Battery Technology

Tianneng delivers a diversified portfolio of energy solutions designed to meet global market demands. Its lead-acid batteries, recognized as China’s top manufacturer in this category, power vehicles and backup systems with high reliability. Lithium-ion products encompass specialized formats like NMC cylindrical and LFP pouch cells, optimized for electric vehicles, e-bikes, and energy systems. For automotive applications, the company produces SLI batteries (including EFB and AGM models) that enhance vehicle efficiency, while traction batteries meet international standards for equipment like forklifts and AGVs.

The company’s R&D arm has advanced sodium-ion batteries capable of 160Wh/kg (layered oxide) and 95Wh/kg (polyanion) energy densities, targeting energy storage and e-mobility. Hydrogen fuel cell systems introduced in 2024 now power buses and industrial machinery. Additionally, the group’s recycling division handles 1.2 million tons of battery waste yearly, recovering materials for reuse and reducing carbon footprints. Proprietary BMS (Battery Management Systems) integrated into energy storage solutions ensure extended lifecycle and safety for applications from microgrids to UPS systems.

Recent Projects

Tianneng expanded its Thailand production facilities in Q1 2025 to scale lithium-ion output ahead of rising EV demand, reaching 10GWh annual capacity. In 2024, it launched its 200km-range sodium-ion e-bike battery in Southeast Asia, while also introducing 100Ah/150Ah home energy storage units meeting GB43854 standards. The group completed construction of a Vietnam battery assembly plant in 2024 to support regional EV manufacturers, and in late 2023, began supplying sodium-ion grid storage systems to Indonesian utility partners.

A 2025 collaboration with a Dutch utility firm saw Tianneng deploy its 4.4MWh commercial energy storage units for windfarm integration. During 2024, the firm received EU certifications for its hydrogen fuel cell buses, with pilot fleets now operating in German public transit. Tianneng also partnered with China’s Tsinghua University on a $100 million R&D project to advance solid-state battery prototypes, aiming for commercial samples by 2026.

Investors

Tianneng Battery Group (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 688819) is majority controlled by Shen Huan (25% stake) and includes institutional investors like China Life Insurance (10%) and Bank of China Investment (8%). The HKEx-listed Tianneng Power International (00819.HK) has Tian Ren Zhang as its largest shareholder (36.55%), alongside entities like First Seafront Fund Management and Kai Hong Zhang. Cross-holdings exist between the two listed entities, with Tianneng Battery Group owning 86.53% of Tianneng Power International.
