VANITEC LIMITED is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering the development and application of vanadium across various industries worldwide. Established in 2008 in the United Kingdom, Vanitec operates as the only global entity singularly focused on vanadium. Its mission centers on representing stakeholder interests, promoting collaboration, and disseminating knowledge about vanadium’s benefits and applications. The organization champions vanadium’s role in sustainable development, particularly in environmentally responsible industrial practices and energy storage.

By facilitating connections between experts and promoting research, Vanitec aims to expand the global usage of vanadium while emphasizing health, safety, and environmental best practices. Through its extensive technical library and industry events, Vanitec serves as a resource for information and networking within the vanadium sector.

Battery Technology

Vanitec actively promotes the role of vanadium in advanced battery technologies, with a particular focus on Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFBs) and vanadium-enhanced lithium-ion batteries. VRFBs, a core area of focus for Vanitec, are recognized for their ability to store energy in liquid electrolytes containing vanadium ions. This design allows for a long operational lifespan and high recyclability of components, differentiating them from other battery chemistries. Their aqueous, non-flammable electrolyte makes VRFBs suitable for large-scale, grid-level energy storage applications, facilitating the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.

Vanitec highlights the safety and sustainability aspects of VRFBs, noting their contribution to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy. Beyond VRFBs, Vanitec supports research and development into vanadium-doped lithium-ion batteries. Incorporating vanadium into cathode materials for these batteries can enhance their efficiency, stability, and cycle life, making them suitable for electric vehicles and other applications requiring improved battery performance. These efforts demonstrate Vanitec’s commitment to advancing energy storage solutions that are both technologically sound and environmentally responsible.

Recent projects

In 2025, GUS Technology and Tyfast Energy formed a strategic alliance to develop vanadium lithium-ion batteries. Following this, in May 2025, Tyfast and US Vanadium signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the industrial-scale production of Lithium Vanadium Oxide (LVO) anodes, targeting improvements in heavy-duty electric vehicle batteries.

Also in 2025, Rongke Power commissioned the world’s first grid-connected GWh-scale VRFB facility in Xinjiang, demonstrating the commercial scalability of these systems. Shanghai Electric completed a 1GWh annual production plant for VRFBs in July 2025, and Big Pawer began the expansion of a second 100 MW production line for the Zaoyang Power Station in February 2025. These developments highlight the recent advancements in vanadium battery technology and its commercial deployment.
