HiTHIUM has signed a battery energy storage system supply agreement with Global Power Generation (GPG), the international renewable energy generation company of NATURGY Group, to deliver a 421MWh BESS for the Fraser Coast project in Queensland, Australia. The agreement marks HiTHIUM’s first utility-scale collaboration with GPG and adds to the companies’ involvement in Australia’s expanding energy storage market.
Under the contract, HiTHIUM will supply 84 liquid-cooled battery energy storage system units alongside a package of services that includes system design, manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, Delivered Duty Paid delivery, commissioning, technical support, and training. The company said its integrated delivery model is intended to support utility-scale projects across the full lifecycle, from engineering and system integration through commissioning and long-term technical support.
The Fraser Coast BESS is designed as an AC-coupled energy storage project connected to the 33kV switchgear of an adjacent solar farm. This configuration allows the system to charge from both the solar plant and the grid. According to the announcement, the system will also feature grid-forming capabilities and is expected to provide energy arbitrage and Frequency Control Ancillary Services, or FCAS. These functions are intended to support grid stability, improve operating flexibility, and help enable higher levels of renewable energy penetration.
A HiTHIUM representative said Australia is a rapidly growing energy storage market and described the project as an example of how grid-forming battery storage can support grid stability while contributing to broader renewable energy integration. The company said the agreement reflects its long-term commitment to the Australian market.
Australia has seen rapid growth in utility-scale battery deployment as renewable energy adoption increases demand for more flexible and resilient grid infrastructure. The Fraser Coast project adds to the pipeline of grid-scale storage assets aimed at supporting energy shifting, frequency regulation, and system stability services.
