HPQ Silicon’s ENDURA+ Gen4 21700 lithium-ion cells have earned UL 1642 safety certification, validating their 6,500 mAh capacity—an 8.3% boost over Gen3—and supporting reliable performance for commercial, mobility and industrial applications.

HPQ Silicon Inc. today announced that its ENDURA+ Gen4 21700 lithium-ion cell platform has received UL 1642 safety certification from an accredited independent testing laboratory. UL 1642 is a widely recognized U.S. safety standard for commercial lithium-ion cells. This certification validates that the Gen4 cells meet stringent requirements for electrical, mechanical and environmental performance under normal and fault conditions.

The Gen4 platform delivers a rated capacity of 6,500 mAh, an 8.3% improvement over the previously certified Gen3 cells, which are rated at 6,000 mAh. Achieving UL 1642 approval supports customer qualification programs, battery pack integrations, commercial evaluations and discussions with industrial partners. It also demonstrates the company’s ability to advance energy density while maintaining key safety and reliability metrics essential for commercial deployment.

As demand grows for higher-energy lithium-ion batteries across mobility, energy storage, telecommunications, defense, robotics and industrial applications, manufacturers are seeking cell technologies that combine performance gains with compatibility across existing production lines. Independent safety certification provides OEMs, integrators and end users with confidence as they evaluate next-generation cell platforms for diverse applications.

This approach allows battery makers to upgrade performance without redesigning factory infrastructure. With UL 1642 certification in hand, HPQ Silicon will continue supporting customer evaluation programs, qualification activities and pack integration efforts as the company advances toward broader commercial deployment of its silicon-anode cell platforms.
