Updated Smart #1 Launches 800V Architecture, LiDAR Tech
Geely and Mercedes’s Smart brand has rolled out two new Smart #1 trims – the 535 Max and 535 Ultra – priced from ¥152,900 to ¥172,900. Updates include an 800V SiC drive, roof LiDAR, adaptive displays, ADAS, and a 535 km LFP battery.

Geely and Mercedes-Benz’s jointly developed Smart brand has introduced two updated trim levels of the Smart #1, designated the 535 Max and 535 Ultra. Prices for the new variants start at 152,900 yuan (approximately $22,500) and rise to 172,900 yuan (about $25,300).

The refreshed Smart #1 retains its familiar design language while incorporating several key technical upgrades. Chief among these is an 800-volt electrical architecture paired with Geely’s “16-in-1” silicon carbide electric drive system, as well as a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor for enhanced perception.

Exterior enhancements include “cyber light and shadow” through-type LED headlights composed of 134 individual diodes, a large front ventilation grille with breathing light effects, and new perception probes on each front fender. The door handles have been redesigned to a semi-hidden configuration to comply with national safety and aerodynamic standards. The vehicle’s dimensions are 4,270 mm in length, 1,822 mm in width and 1,636 mm in height, riding on a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the updated cabin features a 10.2-inch full LCD instrument cluster, a 10-inch adaptive head-up display and a newly styled 15.4-inch 2.5K central touchscreen running the latest Smart operating system via the Flyme Auto interface. The infotainment system is powered by a 4 nm Dragon Eagle 6P cockpit chip and supports an AI agent. Seating configurations offer 24 adjustment combinations, while cargo capacity ranges from 313 L to 976 L. An upgraded 13-speaker Sennheiser audio system delivers a peak output of 640 W and 5.1-channel surround sound.

The Smart #1’s advanced driver-assistance suite includes 31 perception hardware units, featuring the roof LiDAR and an Nvidia Orin Y chip capable of 200 TOPS. The vehicle runs the full-version G-ASD G-Pilot H5 assisted-driving system, based on G-ASD 4.0 and its WAM world behavior model with 100 billion parameters, supporting mapless navigation on signalized paths in both urban and highway scenarios.

Under the rear-drive layout, the electric motor generates up to 245 kW and 320 Nm, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. Energy is supplied by a 61.52 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, offering a CLTC range of 535 km. Thanks to 6C fast-charging technology, the battery can recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 12 minutes, compared with 30 minutes in the previous model. The chassis combines a MacPherson front suspension with a five-link rear suspension for balanced ride comfort and handling.
