Company Overview

WEG Germany GmbH is the German subsidiary of WEG S.A., founded in 1961 and headquartered in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil. Controlled by original family shareholders (Voigt, Da Silva, Werninghaus), the company manufactures and supplies electric motors, drives, transformers, automation systems and battery energy storage solutions. WEG Germany supports sales, service and technical support across Germany and Europe from Kerpen, Germany. The company’s stated focus is improving energy efficiency and enabling renewable integration through modular electrification and connected monitoring products that reduce operating cost and environmental impact.

Battery Technology

WEG’s core technology spans low- and high-voltage electric motors, variable speed drives, power converters and modular battery energy storage systems (BESS). BESS design uses cell-to-pack assembly, bidirectional power converter systems, integrated cooling, fire detection/suppression and step-down transformers in E-House modules. A co-developed battery management system provides redundant monitoring, remote asset management and black-start capability. Supporting technologies include real-time condition monitoring (WEGscan), medium/low-voltage switchgear and automation platforms that improve efficiency, enhance safety, and enable grid-support functions such as peak shaving and renewable smoothing.

Products

Products include low- and high-voltage motors, geared motors, frequency inverters, power converters, transformers, switchgear, smart EV chargers and modular BESS with integrated BMS. Offerings serve EV powertrains and charging, grid-scale and commercial & industrial energy storage, marine propulsion, and broad industrial automation applications.

Recent Projects

Recent company projects include capacity expansions in Brazil: a Jaraguá do Sul production facility scaled to over 1 GWh/year with a new 6,000 m² line and additional jobs, and an Itajaí factory investment supported by BNDES to target 2 GWh/year of BESS capacity (including automated cell-to-pack lines, a test laboratory and substation for grid simulation). WEG also advanced BMS integration through a partnership with Aderis Energy to combine edge monitoring and cloud asset platforms for operational redundancy and remote maintenance.

Investors

WEG S.A. is majority controlled by original family shareholders and related entities. WPA Participações e Serviços S.A. holds a principal stake (50%), with notable individual family holdings such as Voigt, Da Silva and Werninghaus. Institutional investors and a public free float of roughly 35% complete the ownership base.
