Alsym Energy and Re:Build Manufacturing have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop commercial-scale sodium-ion battery cell production capacity in the United States. Alsym Energy, a developer of non-flammable, low-cost sodium-ion batteries, will partner with Re:Build Manufacturing, a leader in advanced domestic production, to address growing demand for safe and cost-effective energy storage systems. The collaboration aims to combine Alsym’s proprietary sodium-ion technology with Re:Build’s expertise in precision manufacturing to create a competitive, fully onshored battery supply chain.

With the global shift toward renewable energy, concerns over the flammability and safety of lithium-ion cells have prompted the need for alternative chemistries. Alsym’s sodium-ion cells eliminate thermal runaway risks and offer wide operating temperature ranges, supporting applications in utilities, commercial real estate, data centers, and sensitive urban environments where stricter safety regulations apply. The partnership intends to accelerate the deployment of these cells by leveraging Re:Build’s existing facility in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, reducing logistical lead times and meeting requirements for tax incentives under recent energy legislation.

Mukesh Chatter, CEO of Alsym Energy, commented that the partnership will “speed our roadmap toward domestic production,” enabling energy storage integrators and developers to access high-performance, non-flammable cells backed by a reliable supply chain compliant with federal procurement rules. Miles Arnone, CEO of Re:Build Manufacturing, noted that adding cell manufacturing capabilities aligns with the company’s mission to revitalize American industrial capacity and meet growing customer demand for a domestically sourced battery supply chain.

The initiative underscores both companies’ commitment to U.S. energy security and innovation. By establishing a vertically integrated manufacturing process—from cell production to module and pack assembly—Alsym and Re:Build aim to support the next generation of energy storage deployments with safer, more economical battery solutions.
