BMZ Poland and EVE Energy Unveil LMFP Battery for Trucks
BMZ Poland and EVE Energy are developing Versora LMFP, a modular battery for heavy-duty EVs that promises lower weight, faster charging, and stronger cold-weather performance. Series production is planned for mid-2028.

BMZ Poland and Chinese cell manufacturer EVE Energy are jointly developing a new lithium manganese iron phosphate battery for electric commercial vehicles. The battery, called Versora LMFP, was presented at IAA Transportation and is intended for heavy-duty applications where lower weight, faster charging, and improved cold-weather performance are key requirements. Series production is planned for mid-2028.

BMZ Poland, headquartered in Gliwice, and EVE Energy have entered into a long-term strategic partnership. Their first joint project expands BMZ’s modular Versora battery platform with LMFP cells from EVE. The companies are targeting not only electric trucks and buses, but also construction and agricultural machinery, special-purpose vehicles, and ships.

According to the partners, LMFP sits between established LFP and NMC chemistries. LFP is valued for its cost, safety, and durability, but offers lower energy density. NMC provides higher energy density and strong performance across a wider temperature range, although it is more expensive. BMZ and EVE say the new LMFP variant is designed to combine part of these advantages for commercial vehicle use.

For an electric long-haul truck, the companies say the battery system could be up to 10% lighter than a comparable LFP solution while meeting the same energy requirements. They also claim charging power of up to 1 megawatt, or a charging rate of 2.2C, which would enable a charge from 10% to 80% in less than 25 minutes. By comparison, BMZ Poland cites around 35 minutes for a similar LFP system.

BMZ Poland also says the LMFP battery is targeted to deliver more than 4,500 full charge cycles while retaining 80% state of health, with a next-generation version aimed at more than 5,500 cycles. At minus 20 degrees Celsius, the system is expected to retain 85% of its capacity, compared with about 75% for the LFP technology used by BMZ Poland in its comparison.

Versora is designed as a modular platform with two module formats that can be placed in the vehicle floor, body, or roof and combined to match energy and space needs. BMZ says the NMC and LMFP versions will share the same dimensions, weight, electrical interfaces, and voltage classes, allowing manufacturers to offer different battery options without changing the vehicle architecture. The NMC version is already in sample production, while first LMFP samples are planned for 2027.
