Envision Energy, Kallista Launch 193MW/386MWh BESS in France

Envision Energy and Kallista Energy have unveiled a 193 MW/386 MWh battery energy storage system, set to begin commercial operation in spring 2028. Using locally made LFP cells, it will deliver grid flexibility and power about 30,000 homes.

Envision Energy has expanded its partnership with European renewable energy producer Kallista Energy through the launch of the 193 MW/386 MWh Neuilly-en-Thelle battery energy storage system (BESS) in Hauts-de-France. Construction began in July 2026, and commercial operation is scheduled before spring 2028. This project follows the companies’ initial collaboration on the Saleux BESS, Envision Energy’s first storage installation in France, which started construction in 2025.

Under the agreement, Envision Energy will deliver its advanced BESS solution and manage the site through its full lifecycle—including ongoing maintenance and end-of-life battery recycling after 25 years of operation. The system is built around lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells supplied by Envision AESC’s 10 GWh gigafactory in Hauts-de-France, which began production in June 2025. By integrating locally manufactured battery cells with system-level controls, the project aims to bolster regional industrial capacity and improve resilience in the power grid.

Once operational, the Neuilly-en-Thelle installation will support the French grid with flexibility services such as frequency regulation via RTE’s reserve markets, helping to balance electricity supply and demand. It will deliver a daily energy capacity equivalent to the needs of approximately 30,000 households, enhancing overall grid stability, accommodating higher shares of renewable generation, and contributing to France’s electrification goals.

Henry Peng, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy and President of its Europe and Latin America regions, highlighted the project’s role in advancing a Future Energy System that strengthens grid resilience, accelerates renewable integration, and supports sustainable industrial growth across Europe. Johann Tardy, CEO of Kallista Energy Group, noted that high-quality battery storage infrastructure is essential for the large-scale deployment of renewable energy and the transition to a low-carbon economy. Both companies regard the Neuilly-en-Thelle project as a scalable model for energy storage developments elsewhere in Europe.
