Veolia North America has been selected to operate a new 350-megawatt, grid-independent microgrid serving a major U.S. data center campus. Awarded in July 2026, this contract covers the design, construction oversight, commissioning, and long-term operations and maintenance of the facility’s standalone power system.
Under the agreement, Veolia will integrate multiple onsite generation assets—fiber-fuel combustion turbines paired with a large-scale battery energy storage system—and deploy an advanced energy management platform. The microgrid is engineered to run autonomously during grid outages and demand-response events, ensuring uninterrupted power for mission-critical IT loads. At normal operation it will synchronize with the local utility grid, using real-time monitoring and forecasting tools to optimize energy usage and reduce overall emissions.
Veolia’s responsibilities include electrical infrastructure installation, system controls configuration, and round-the-clock operations management. Predictive maintenance protocols leveraging digital twins and machine-learning analytics will be applied to key equipment, enhancing reliability and extending asset life. The approach supports the data center operator’s objectives for resilience, sustainability, and cost efficiency.
This initiative represents an evolution in critical facility energy management by combining flexible generation, storage, and digital oversight.
