NextStar Energy received the Energy Storage Milestone Award following the grand opening of its battery manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario. Energy Storage Canada presented the award at its annual conference in Toronto on September 22, 2026.
The award recognizes the Windsor plant as what Energy Storage Canada described as Canada’s first and only commercial-scale battery manufacturing facility. The organization said the project represents a milestone for domestic energy storage manufacturing and provides a foundation for further growth in the sector.
More than CAD $5 billion has been invested in the facility to date. NextStar currently employs more than 1,300 people and has set a long-term target of 2,500 employees as the plant scales to full production.
NextStar said the facility anchors domestic battery production and brings battery manufacturing capabilities to Canada. The company expects the plant to strengthen the North American battery supply chain and support Canada’s advanced manufacturing sector and long-term industrial competitiveness.
“This award is a tremendous recognition of what our team has accomplished in such a short time,” said Danies Lee, CEO of NextStar Energy. Lee added that the facility’s grand opening followed a period of work amid changing industry conditions and that the company remains committed to battery manufacturing in Ontario.
NextStar Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Energy Solution. According to the company, the Windsor operation will help onshore battery manufacturing capabilities intended to meet the evolving requirements of the energy storage sector in Canada and across North America.
