The global battery energy storage system market continues to expand as utilities and large power users respond to renewable integration, grid modernization, peak load management and rising electricity demand. MarketsandMarkets estimates the market at about $50.81 billion in 2025 and projects it will reach approximately $105.96 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of roughly 15.8%. A separate forecast from MarkNtel Advisors, using a narrower market definition, places the sector at about $7.8 billion in 2024 and projects growth to roughly $29.98 billion by 2030, or about 25% annually. Despite the difference in market sizing, both outlooks point to continued expansion driven in part by artificial intelligence-related electricity demand.
That demand is especially visible in data centers, where new campuses can be planned and built much faster than the transmission and substation capacity needed to serve them. Utilities face similar pressures from load growth, aging infrastructure, storm response and planned maintenance. In that environment, interest is growing in transportable battery storage systems that can be moved to address constraints as they shift across the grid.
NOMAD Power Solutions said the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity has authorized its Vermont Long Duration Energy Storage Demonstration Project to advance into Phase 3. The project will move into installation, integration and construction and is expected to deploy up to eight transportable battery energy storage units across five sites within Green Mountain Power’s service territory. The project is valued at about $19 million and includes a $9.5 million DOE award, along with an approximately 50% non-federal cost share. Green Mountain Power has already used an existing NOMAD system for peak management and to maintain service during planned utility maintenance.
The company also said its 1 megawatt transportable battery energy storage system received UL 9540 certification on August 19, 2026, and that DSO Electric Cooperative deployed two mobile battery systems on July 29, 2026. NOMAD also reported earlier updates on capacity increases across its Voyager fleet and an upgraded Voyager series.
