Princeton NuEnergy Inc. (PNE) announced on September 30, 2026, that it is continuing its collaboration with SK Battery America, Inc. (SKBA) to develop a closed-loop recycling pathway for battery manufacturing scrap from SKBA’s facilities in Commerce, Georgia.

Under the planned collaboration, PNE would receive manufacturing scrap from SKBA. PNE is exploring the development of a recycling facility near the battery manufacturing site to create a localized system for processing the material. The proposed facility would recover and rejuvenate cathode active material for potential return to battery manufacturing.

PNE’s direct recycling process is designed to preserve and rejuvenate the engineered structure of cathode materials. This differs from conventional recycling methods that break battery materials down into their constituent elements. The companies aim to improve material circularity and recover value from manufacturing scrap while supporting a domestic supply chain for critical battery materials.

PNE also recently said it had been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to enter award negotiations for up to $50 million in support of a proposed $110 million Cathode-to-Cathode rejuvenation facility in the United States.

SKBA, a wholly owned subsidiary of SK On, operates electric vehicle battery manufacturing facilities in Commerce with approximately 22 GWh of combined annual production capacity. The company has invested approximately $2.6 billion in its Commerce operations.

PNE and SKBA are continuing discussions on the technical and commercial framework for the collaboration. According to PNE, a localized recycling pathway could reduce reliance on imported inputs and support U.S. energy security and industrial competitiveness.
