Hongqi Debuts 10-70% Ultra-Fast Charging Battery for EVs
Hongqi and CNET developed an ultra-fast charging battery that charges from 10% to 70% SOC in 3m41s and 10% to 97% in 8m3s, outpacing rival tech. It uses a 12C peak rate, optimized anode, proprietary electrolyte and smart liquid cooling.

China FAW Group’s Hongqi brand and China Automotive New Energy Battery Technology (CNET) have announced an in-house developed ultra-fast charging battery that can charge from 10% to 70% state of charge (SOC) in 3 minutes and 41 seconds. The battery recently completed charging performance tests at 25°C and demonstrated an industry-leading 10% to 97% SOC recharge in 8 minutes and 3 seconds.

According to the test data, the new cell outperforms comparable solutions, including a noted second-generation battery from a major domestic competitor, which requires 5 minutes to reach 70% SOC and 9 minutes to hit 97% SOC under its flash-charging system. Hongqi has not yet provided a timeline for mass production or identified the first vehicle model that will integrate the technology.

Key to the battery’s rapid charging capability is a highly efficient anode designed to overcome traditional cell bottlenecks, enabling a peak charging rate of 12C. The developer also formulated a proprietary electrolyte with low desolvation energy, reducing the barrier to lithium-ion migration. Combined with composite carbon-source coating and bulk-phase doping modifications, the cell’s internal resistance is reportedly 15% lower than that of similar cells, which enhances charge transfer efficiency and responsiveness.

Thermal management is handled by an intelligent liquid cooling system that maintains a pack-wide temperature differential of less than 3°C during fast-charge cycles. The system dynamically adjusts its cooling strategy based on driving and parking conditions to keep the battery within an optimal operating range and minimize energy use. An adaptive fast-charging strategy monitors cell temperatures in real time, limiting temperature rises and adjusting the charging power curve to mitigate risks such as overvoltage and overcharging. A closed-loop verification process continuously checks cell voltage and state of charge to ensure safety and reliability.

Hongqi stated that the successful validation of this ultra-fast charging technology represents a significant milestone in power battery innovation. Earlier this year, the brand also unveiled a prototype vehicle featuring an all-solid-state battery pack built on the Hongqi Tiangong 06 platform.
